Chocolate will help to avoid a stroke

It was found that a regular intake of chocolate will reduce the risk of stroke by several times.

Chocolate can help many people avoid a stroke during old age. As many studies have shown, stroke is manifested as a disorder of cerebral circulation causing damage to the brain tissues and an impairment of its functions, which later can result in either complete or partial immobility, speech, memory and mental disorders. There are many causes that can affect the development of this pathology. These include hypertension, atherosclerosis, heart diseases, rheumatism and others. Taking into account the severity and complexity of the disease, experts strongly advise to pay attention to preventive measures and lifestyle. On the list of the easiest preventive measures includes the cutting out smoking and alcohol, exercising, maintaining a healthy weight, an active lifestyle and good nutrition. In addition, there are other factors that can reduce the risk of stroke. One of such components was revealed in the course of a recent study.

Researchers believe that chocolate and its components can positively affect the cardiovascular system and prevent the development of a stroke. The results of this experiment shows that by eating one bar of chocolate per week, you can reduce the risk by 17%. The relationship between the consumption of chocolate and the cardiovascular system has already been discussed before, but this study focused its influence on a stroke. During the experiment, scientists interviewed more than 37,000 people aged 49 to 75 years, each of whom provided data on the number and frequency of consumed chocolate. With further monitoring over a period of 10 years, it became possible to see all cases of heart diseases and other abnormalities. Specialists found that 63 grams of chocolate per week is enough to reduce the risk by 17%, while the following 50 grams increased the figures by 14%. In addition, the effectiveness did not depend on the type of chocolate (dark or milk).

According to scientists, chocolate has such a beneficial effect due to the chemicals called flavonoids. Their varieties are catechins, which, for example, can also be found in tea, and procyanidins available in grapes, wine, blueberries and apples. Flavonoids reduce the density of blood, thereby preventing the formation of blood clots. They strengthen the arteries and maintain their integrity by expanding in case of changes in blood pressure. Also, the chemicals reduce the concentration of harmful cholesterol in the blood, reduce blood pressure and have anti-inflammatory properties.

Thus, this study demonstrated the positive effect of chocolate on the functioning of the cardiovascular system. But do not forget that chocolate contains a lot of sugar, it is saturated with fats and is quite caloric. Therefore, in addition to chocolate, experts recommend to use other preventive measures, for example, the consumption of grapefruit and oranges, as well to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
